Rock and Roll Vocabulary

Pre-Production

Provide pre-drawn sketches or labeled visuals to match vocabulary words. Use gestures, icons, or real objects to support meaning. Offer simple sentence stems such as “This word means ___.” Allow students to point, match visuals, or use short phrases when responding.

Beginning

Provide word sort or picture-word matching activities before playing the game to build familiarity. Offer partially completed sentences such as “This word is ___.” or “This means ___.” Encourage partner discussion before sharing.

Intermediate

Ask students to explain their drawing or representation using a complete sentence. Encourage students to justify their synonym or antonym choice using prompts such as “This word is similar to ___ because ___.”

High Intermediate

Encourage students to elaborate on their explanations and compare vocabulary relationships. Ask students to lead discussions or support peers by explaining vocabulary using examples or connections to the lesson.

Advanced

Challenge students to analyze relationships among vocabulary terms, explain nuances in meaning, and justify their reasoning using precise academic vocabulary and detailed explanations.
