Focused Listing

Pre-Production

Use cognates, visuals, gestures, and real-life examples to support comprehension. Assign a supportive partner (preferably an intermediate or advanced peer) to model participation and help clarify ideas.

Allow partner discussion before writing. Provide a partially completed word list, graphic organizer, or key vocabulary for reference while listening.

Intermediate

Ask students to categorize or organize key ideas under headings such as causes/effects, problems/solutions, or characters/themes. Encourage students to explain their thinking using complete sentences.

High Intermediate

Encourage students to synthesize ideas by summarizing key takeaways or identifying main ideas and supporting details. Allow students to lead brief discussions within their group.

Advanced

Challenge students to evaluate information they heard, compare perspectives, and present a concise summary using academic vocabulary and detailed explanations.
