Beginning

Allow students to talk with a partner before writing to process ideas verbally. Provide simple sentence stems such as “I used to think ___.” or “Now I think ___.” |
Intermediate
|
Challenge students to explain how their thinking changed by providing an example or describing how the misconception was corrected. Encourage students to use complete sentences. |
High Intermediate
|
Ask students to write their responses as if explaining the concept to someone who still holds the misconception. Encourage students to include evidence or reasoning. |
Advanced
|
Challenge students to analyze why the misconception occurs and explain the correct concept clearly using academic vocabulary and detailed reasoning. |
