Pre-Production

Allow the student to respond using gestures, visuals, or a single word. Pair the student with a supportive peer who can help model a response or repeat the question.

 

Beginning

Allow the student to practice their answer with a peer or teacher before participating in the group activity. Pair the student with a peer who can help clarify the question or restate their response.

 

Intermediate

Provide 2-3 possible answers for the student to choose from if they feel stuck. Simplify the phrasing of questions for easier comprehension such as “What is one thing you know about           ?”

 

Advanced

Allow the student to discuss ideas briefly with a partner or group before sharing them aloud. Encourage the student to elaborate on their ideas using prompts such as “Explain why           ” or “What do you think will happen if           ?”

 

Advanced High

Challenge the student to use academic vocabulary related to the topic in their response. Encourage the student to justify their answer with evidence or reasoning such as “I believe            because           .”
