Pre-Production

Beginning

Provide sentence stems with key vocabulary such as “I believe this is a fact because ______.” or “I think this is a fib because ______.” |
Intermediate

After showing their cards, students discuss and defend their responses in pairs. Provide thinking prompts such as “How does this fact connect to what we learned?” or “What evidence can you provide to support your claim?” |
High Intermediate
|
Ask students to explain their reasoning more fully using complete sentences. After showing their cards, students discuss and defend responses in pairs. Provide thinking prompts such as: “How does this fact connect to what we learned?” or “What detail helped you decide?” |
Advanced
|
Ask students, “Where have you seen a misconception like this in real life?” Allow students to write, speak, or create a quick drawing to support their reasoning. |
