Instructional Strategy: Team-Two-One – eb support

Provide visuals, diagrams, or labeled images to support comprehension of the question. Offer simple stems for each stage: Team – “We think the answer is ___.” Pair – “We agree on ___.” Individual – “I chose ___.” Allow students to point, gesture, or draw to support explanations.

Provide a simple response template for each stage. Team response: “Our team’s answer is ___ because ___.” Pair response: “Our answer is ___ because ___.” Individual response: “I believe the answer is ___ because ___.” Encourage partner discussion before writing.

Provide frames for more detailed justifications such as “This is the best answer because ___ aligns with ___.” or “This concept connects to ___.” Encourage students to deepen responses with prompts such as “What evidence supports this answer?”

After completing the Team–Pair–Individual stages, have students write a short explanation describing how their thinking evolved from collaboration to individual understanding. Ask students to analyze their reasoning using prompts such as “What makes this answer stronger than another?”

Challenge students to evaluate the reasoning behind multiple answers, defend their final decision with evidence, and explain how the concept applies to new situations using precise academic language.
