Tic-Tac-Tally

Pre-Production

Provide images, icons, gestures, or diagrams on the cards to help students understand words and concepts. Offer simple sentence stems such as “These are connected because ___.” or “This word means ___.”

 

Beginning

Provide a simple chart or graphic organizer where students can jot down possible connections before writing on the game board. Encourage group discussion before placing a card.

 

Intermediate

Provide sentence frames such as “This connection highlights ___ because ___.” or “The relationship among these items is ___.” After “Tic-Tac-Tally,” ask groups to compare their connections and discuss differences.

 

High Intermediate

Require students to use academic vocabulary and detailed reasoning when explaining their connections. Encourage students to explain patterns or relationships among the cards.

 

Advanced

Challenge students to create their own set of cards with new vocabulary, visuals, or concepts and justify the connections using academic language and deeper analysis.
