What is the Math Academy?
The lead4ward Math Academy provides a strategically paced learning and support system for K-5 math educators throughout the year. The Academy includes face-to-face professional learning (4 days total) that guides teachers and leaders through an in-depth exploration of the K-5 math standards, vertical alignment, and student engagement strategies that build students’ mathematical fluency, independent thinking, and confidence in problem-solving.
Choose your pathway
The integrated approach pathway emphasizes effective planning and learner engagement. It benefits teachers and coaches with more than 3 years of experience in their role.
Four sessions in this pathway focus on the following priorities:
- How to maximize district/campus data to inform long-range planning
- How to leverage high-yield instructional strategies to enhance district/campus instructional materials
- How to strategically embed small group instruction and interventions for all levels of learners
- How to use backwards design to develop formative assessments and increase instructional rigor
The content-specific support pathway includes a deep vertical (K-5) content alignment wrapped in research-based instructional moves and strategies that maximize student success. Teachers with 0-3 years of teaching experience are more likely to benefit from this pathway.
Four long-strand focus areas in this pathway include:
- Developing number sense and place value concepts
- Practicing additive and multiplicative reasoning
- Engaging with fraction concepts and computations
- Exploring geometric and measurement-related concepts
Research-based instructional moves embedded in this pathway include:
- CRA (Concrete-Representational-Abstract) hands-on engagement with physical and virtual manipulatives
- Productive struggle and intentional processing time
- Student discourse (including prompts)
- Exemplars and co-created anchor charts
Year-long support
Regardless of which option you choose, the lead4ward Math Academy year-long support includes:
- 4 face-to-face sessions
- Timely state/legislative math updates
- Online math community

Interested in hosting a multi-district Math Academy?
A multi-district Math Academy is a professional learning opportunity hosted by a school district, facilitated by lead4ward, and open to surrounding districts. The host district and lead4ward will market the academy to surrounding districts to expand the academy cohort.
Benefits to the host district:
- 2 free academy registrations
- 1 free academy registration for the district-level math coordinator
