Pre-Production
Provide a simplified version of the content focusing on a few key ideas. Use visuals, diagrams, or highlighted text to support comprehension. Allow students to discuss ideas in their home language and respond using short phrases, drawings, or gestures before sharing. |
Beginning
Assign clear speaking roles (e.g., “You explain the first point, and I’ll explain the second.”). Provide sentence starters such as “One important idea is ___.” Allow students to practice using think–pair–share before presenting to their home group. |
Intermediate
Have students write key phrases in their own words before presenting their section. Encourage students to include one new academic word or vocabulary term in their explanation. Provide sentence frames to support explanation. |
High Intermediate
Allow students to choose their format for presenting their “sell” (verbal explanation, visual, skit, analogy). Encourage students to elaborate on their explanation and connect ideas to prior learning. |
Advanced
Challenge students to evaluate how effectively their group communicated the concept. Ask students to refine explanations, compare approaches, and extend the discussion using precise academic language and examples. |
