Purpose
Students summarize learning and think deeply about content.
Materials
Instructions

- Students write 3 things they learned.

- Students write 1 question or draw 1 conclusion about what they learned.
- Students turn in their 3-2-1 Summaries as an exit ticket.

Classroom Management
- Model the strategy using a think-aloud.
- Time Saver: Project the template and ask students to record their 3-2-1 Summary on notebook paper.
Differentiation
- Promote access by providing an idea/word bank for each section.
- Provide response support by allowing students to dictate responses to a scribe and providing thinking stems to frame responses.
- Provide response support by allowing students to use a speech-to-text or word prediction support with a digital version of the 3-2-1 Summary template.
- Access language supports by proficiency level ->
Think It Up!
- Have students think more deeply about the concept by responding to a Think It Up prompt as an exit ticket or journal entry:
- Share your summary with another student and add one new idea to any section.
- Get a partner and apply what you know to help answer each other’s “1” question.
- Encourage students to use lead4ward’s Thinking Stems (English/Spanish) to frame their responses, if needed.

This instructional strategy is called three-two-one Summary. Save it to use this school year. You start by projecting or distributing the three-two-one Summary handout. First, students write three things they learned. Next, students write two examples, applications, or inferences about what they learned. And then students write one question or conclusion about what they learned. Students can turn in their three two one summaries as an exit ticket. Follow for more instructional strategies like this one.
