Model responses aloud using gestures and visuals. Allow students to represent their thinking with drawings, symbols, arrows, numbers, or labeled visuals in their Thought Bubbles before explaining verbally. |
Beginning
|
Encourage students to include sketches, diagrams, or symbols to represent ideas. Provide sentence stems such as “This word means ___.” or “This fact is important because ___.” or “This connects to ___.” |
Intermediate
|
Allow students to discuss their ideas with a partner before writing them down. Use prompts such as “What does this remind you of?” or “Why is this detail important?” Encourage students to explain their reasoning in complete sentences. |
High Intermediate

Provide frames such as “This connects to ___ because ___.” or “A skill we used here is ___.” Ask students to analyze their connections by discussing which idea or connection is most important and why. |
Advanced
|
